Be Consistent and Make Progress Every Day

As a self-taught software engineer, I know there are tons of room for me to improve. Therefore, I need to work hard each day to educate myself. The reality is, it’s very hard to study or work on my project after work. After several months of trial and error, I have found some ways to make progress each day. Here are my tips:

  1. Get up 30 minutes earlier. After I brush my teeth, I start the day by doing this Science Approved 7Min High Intensity Circuit Training WORKOUT”. This quick exercise awakens me fully, and then I will study or build my project for 30 minutes before going to work. No email, social media, Skype, or instance messaging at this time. I think the morning is the best time for me to learn since my brain feels energized after sleep and the 7-min workout.
  2. After dinner, do some small chores! I usually clear the table and put dishes into the dish washer before I get back to work. This activity helps me switch my mind from office mode to home mode, and generate thoughts for the things I am going to do that evening.

These two tips might be small, but it’s the consistent work that makes a difference. If I can improve just 1% each day, I will become 3,778% better (1.01^365) one year later.

Do you have your tips? I would love to hear about it.
